If you qualify for the Weekend League you have to play 40 games and win as many as possible. The more wins you get, the higher you’re ranked, and the better rewards you receive.
The best players win all 40, which is incredibly hard to do. To be at the top, you have to be an extremely good player, but it helps to have a squad filled with the best players in the game too.
40 wins in the Weekend League is hard, but it’s easier if your squad is worth nearly 30 million
Reddit user donhuan09 has done some analysis of the most recent Weekend League on PlayStation 4, to see what the top 50 players were using, and which formations they ran.
According to their research, the average squad cost in the top 50 is a staggering 14.67 million coins.
The cheapest squad in the top 50 cost a more reasonable 2.49 million coins, although that’s still out of reach for the majority of FIFA 18 players. It consists of just two In-Form cards among nine standard rare gold cards.
The player, gaston27123112, won 39 of their 40 games, a very good achievement.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the most picked player at the top of the FUT Champions Weekend League
Meanwhile, the most expensive squad in this weekend’s league cost a monumental 27.75 million coins. It contains the likes of Ronaldo (both Brazilian Icon and Portuguese), Ronaldinho, Vieira, Gullit, and Henry.
Top 10 most used players in Weekend League
- Ferdinand (90) – 68%
- Cristiano Ronaldo (94) – 48%
- Gullit (90) – 48%
- Vieira (91) – 46%
- De Gea (90) – 44%
- Vrsaljko (84) – 42%
- Henry (93) – 40%
- Ramos (97) – 38%
- Neymar (95) – 30%
- Alex Sandro (86) – 28%
In total, the squad has six Icon cards, four Team of the Year cards, and an In-Form.
Its owner, Cihan_Official, won all 40 games, which you would hope for if you had dropped that much cash on an Ultimate Team squad.
86% of players in the top 50 use one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s cards, whether it’s standard, In-Form, or TOTY. 76% use one of the Rio Ferdinand Icons, 76% use one of Vieira’s Icons, 70% use David De Gea in goal, and 54% use one of Ruud Gullit’s Icons.
The most picked specific card in the top 50 is Rio Ferdinand’s 90 rated Icon, which is one of the best defenders in the game. 68% of players use this version, the only player used by over 50% of top 50 squads.
The rest of the top picked cards are to be expected, with the likes of Gullit, Ronaldo, and Vieira. But the presence of Atletico Madrid’s Sime Vrsaljko might be a surprise to some. 42% of players picked his In-Form card at right back. He’s pretty cheap at just 56,000 coins, but he’s a monster.
As for formations, the most popular line up is the 4-1-2-1-2 (2) at 30%, followed by 4-2-3-1 at 26% and 4-4-2 at 20%.
