Fortnite fans now have the chance to obtain both a free emote as well as improve their account security.
Epic Games has just announced that a free Boogie Down emote will be available to all users who enable 2FA, the game’s authentication system.
The announcement follows the company’s recent push to improve security for Fortnite players throughout the world, including by distributing warnings against scam websites that claim to sell discounted V-Bucks and fake apps for Android.
The Boogie Down emote for Fortnite will now be available for free for players who enable 2FA
What is 2FA?
2FA, also known as two-factor authentication, is an effective yet straightforward way that Fortnite players can safeguard their Epic Games account and ensure an added layer of safety.
2FA sends a PIN to a user’s email account or phone, offering additional protection in case hackers are able to obtain their password and access their account.
According to Epic Games: ‘If you opt in to the 2FA feature, each time you sign in using your password, you’ll receive a security code that is good for one use, over a short period of time.
‘The security code will be sent to you through the verification method that you selected in your account settings.
‘Currently, 2FA security codes can be received through either an authentication app or via your Epic Games email address.’
How to enable 2FA for Fortnite
To enable the 2FA security system and get a free Boogie Down emote, Fortnite players should access their accounts from the official Epic Games website.
After entering their username and password, they’ll then have to click on the security tab and scroll down to the two 2FA options, with those being email authentication or an authentication app.
For players who choose the email authentication method, they’ll have to verify their correct email address in order to enable 2FA. Upon verifying their address, players should be able to unlock the Boogie Down emote from the Fortnite: Battle Royale login screen.
For players who choose the authentication app, they too will have to verify their email address first. Upon doing this, they can then use the PIN sent to their phone to complete the 2FA security process and subsequently access the free Boogie Down emote from their game login screen.
Gamers using the 2FA system will be required to enter their 2FA security code in the following instances:
- Enabling 2FA for the first time
- Signing in on a new device
- After clearing cookies from their browser
- Logging in after 30 days of inactivity
