It’s official: Fortnite will finally be playable on Android.
After weeks of rumors, Samsung officially confirmed that the wildly-popular video game will now be available to play on the new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 at its official launch event at the Barclays Center arena in New York City.
Other Android users will also be able to play the hit video game on their devices, but will have to wait until the end of August to do so.
The video game Fortnite is now available to play on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 smartphone
The new smartphone comes at a hefty price tag of $1,000 (£899) at launch. However, the availability of the massively-popular video game at its launch was seen by some experts as an excellent way to entice potential buyers and get them to look past the initial sticker shock of its price.
In an interview with news.com.au, cyber psychologist Jocelyn Brewer said that Samsung’s collaboration with Fortnite creator Tim Sweeney was a great business idea.
‘This is a really intelligent move by Samsung to link up with Tim Sweeney, who has devoted seven years to developing his game before it was released,’ she said.
Brewer also noted that the fear of missing out will motivate many to buy the new smartphone in order to play the game.
‘There are a lot of people playing this game so the peer pressure to participate is very strong. As a result, the pressure on parents to download the game and play is equally as strong,’ Brewer stated.
Fortnite creator Tim Sweeney also hailed the new partnership, stating: ‘Samsung makes the best performing Android devices in the world and the Note 9 represents a real revolution for mobile gaming.’
Speaking at the Galaxy Note 9 launch event, Sweeney also said that Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, and Sumsung were ‘ushering mobile gaming into a new era of high end games for gamers’.
As part of the new partnership between Epic Games and Samsung, the South Korean tech titan also announced that exclusive new skins and other content will be available for customers. Customers who order the new phone within the next 13 days would also receive a reward of ‘either 15,000 V-bucks with the Fortnite Galaxy skin or a pair of AKG noise-cancelling headphones.’
Notably, Fortnite will not be available in the Google Play Store as most downloads and apps are for Android devices. Instead, it can be downloaded directly from Epic Games’s website or the Samsung Galaxy App Store. Prospective players can also sign up for the game’s beta directly on its website.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 features
The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 costs $1,000 (£899) and features a 6.4 inch display and the largest battery ever on a Samsung phone. In addition, it will also include an S Pen stylus with integrated Bluetooth functionality, new and improved dual camera features and 128BG and 512GB internal storage options capable of holding 670 hours of film.
It also boasts 8BG of RAM and a faster processor capable of downloading content up to 1.2 gigabits per second.
