When is Fortnite patch notes 5.4 coming out? This week is shaping up to be one of the biggest refreshes to Epic’s battle royale game. Fortnite patch notes 5.4 are confirmed to have a new Grappler item to help you swing between player-created constructions, and a Payday-style limited time event mode: The Getaway.
So there’s plenty to be excited about when it comes to Fortnite patch notes 5.4. Much of what we will see come to the game this week was announced at PAX West, and we can’t wait to get our hands on the new items and changes. We will see Fortnite’s Revolver vaulted, so it’s not all good news, but there will also be plenty of bug fixes and quality of life improvements.
The headline addition to the Fortnite patch notes 5.4 is the heist-themed event which will net you a Fortnite High Stakes skin if you complete all your skin-specific Fortnite High Stakes challenges. The High Stakes event also promises to bring the Fortnite The Getaway LTM, and the gravity-defying new weapon, the Fortnite Grappler. There’s certain to be plenty more to come, so here’s everything we know about the Fortnite patch notes 5.4.
Suit up and get ready for High Stakes with patch v5.40! Downtime starts tomorrow, September 6 at 4 AM ET (0800 GMT).

Typically, each set of new Fortnite patch notes lands every Tuesday at 9am BST (4am ET / 1am PT). We heard more about the latest High Stakes event on Monday night, and know we know the special challenges attached to the new Wild Card skin. They are similar to the Fortnite Tomatohead challenges we saw during Gamescom, but with more emphasis on The Getaway LTM. We know that this latest set of challenges this time will reward a new briefcase Back Bling and a crowbar-style harvesting tool.
Also shown off at PAX West is the Grappler, which appears to be some sort of grappling hook with what looks like ten uses. The Grappler seems to allow players to attach themselves to structures and swing between buildings as you might in a game like Just Cause. It looks perfect if you want to pretend to be Spiderman swinging through New York (i.e. Tilted Towers), if you like.
Fortnite’s next limited time mode has been revealed to be called The Getaway. In a way that recalls the heists of Payday or GTA Online – or the evacuation mechanics in other battle royale games like Fear the Wolves or Dying Light: Bad Blood – you and your squad need to be first to escape Fortnite’s map with a llama-shaped jewel on your back.
Four safes spawn at the start of a match and, if your team can get to a safe and procure the jewel, the successful thief will wear the jewel as a backpack as it takes up an inventory slot. Them, if you successful find a van and evacuate unharmed, the victory royale is yours. The Getaway looks like a great twist on the battle royale formula, and we’re excited to get into it.
