When is Fortnite season 6 coming out? Fortnite seasons tend to stick to a reasonably strict time frame, so we have a pretty good idea of the Fortnite season 6 release date. That means we should get a brand new Battle Pass with masses of new skins, emotes, and more, plus another ten weeks of challenges.
In terms of concrete details, we don’t know much when it comes to Fortnite season 6. This was the case as we approached the launch of last season, Epic has had great fun with cryptic clues and hints, so we’re not short of speculation. Fanning the Fortnite fan theory flames is the mysterious purple cube that’s moving around battle royale island as if it has a mind of its own. Runes and minor map additions have caught us off guard, too, and we’re itching to see what Fortnite’s next season will look like.
While Epic has remained tight-lipped as to what we can expect from Fortnite season 6, fans have been as vocal as ever as to what they would like to see changed in their battle royale game of choice. Loot Lake and Lonely Lodge are both locations fans see as fit for the chop, or at least a hefty update. But, since Epic have been known to surprise us in the past, don’t expect something obvious. Yes, that includes a meteor devastating Tilted Towers. Here’s everything we know about Fortnite season 6.
Fortnite season 6 release date
Fortnite seasons typically last for ten weeks – that’s about two-and-a-half months. That’s enough time for ten weeks of challenges and, since this week will bring us the Fortnite week 10 challenges, it should follow that we get Fortnite season 6 next week.
Fortnite season 5 landed on Thursday July 12, so we reckon that the Fortnite season 6 release date is Thursday September 20, 2018. Of course this could change if there are any major technical problems, but that’s your best bet.
Fortnite season 6 Battle Pass
We might be unsure about a lot of things regarding the next season, but we’d happily put money on there being a brand new Fortnite season 6 Battle Pass – just like last season, of which you can see more in the video above – for us to sink our teeth into.
For those of you you haven’t dropped the cash on the necessary Fortnite V-Bucks (950 to be specific, which equates £7.99/$9.99 if you buy 1000) to purchase Epic’s premium progression system, the Battle Pass is a way for paying players to earn extra cosmetics. You can still progress through levels and tiers if you don’t pay, but you won’t be able to unlock the loot to which Battle Pass owners will have access.
We’d certainly be shocked if there wasn’t a Fortnite season 6 Battle Pass that gives us another 100 levels to unlock skins, sprays, and harvesting tools, but Epic have varied their progression system in previous seasons. For season 5 we got a mix of free and Battle Pass challenges each week as well some some XP-based rewards. On top of that, we tackled Road Trip challenges that gave us extra rewards for completing every change in a single week.
We doubt that Epic will simply keep everything the same, but it is highly likely the premium unlockable goodies will tie into the Fortnite season 6 theme, which can only be guessed at so far. In terms of rewards, however, @FNLeak has leaked Fortnite game files for pets, music packs, and weapon skins, so these could be brand new cosmetic types for season 6.
Fortnite season 6 map
If this season is anything like previous ones, the Fortnite season 6 map will change considerably. Now and again Bluehole introduce PUBG new maps, but Epic have historically added to their single existing map. That isn’t to say that this definitely won’t change for season 6 – we wouldn’t entirely rule out a Sosnovka-style island add-on – but the odds on this would be long.
It’s much more likely that new areas will appear and, since the Fortnite map is rather congested relative to other battle royale games. The Fortnite season 5 map saw a desert biome replace Moisty Mire to the south east, and the Lazy Links resort appear where the northern area of Anarchy Acres used to be. Equally, there could be a new biome on the way. Perhaps an ice biome could appear in the south west corner where the viking boat is currently located? Winter is coming, after all.
Loot Lake and Anarchy Acres are widely seen as one of Fortnite’s weakest areas. Loot Lake, for instance, will make you a sitting duck if you don’t have requisite materials to traverse its large body of water. Whatever area does go, eagle-eyed fans and determined leakers think they know what’s to come. Plenty of players believe that Fortnite Crazy Castle will be the next new location and, if that’s the case, it’s likely it will come as part of season 6.
Of course we cannot think about the Fortnite season 6 map without mentioning the mysterious purple Fortnite cube. The cube has appeared in the game for some weeks now and seems to have a mind of its own. It might be empty inside the Fortnite cube, but this mountain-sized block has glowed pink at the base, moved around the map unpredictably, and the Fortnite cube has left runes in its wake. Many players see the cube as a death sentence for any area it moves close to once it becomes ‘corrupted’. So, where is it heading right before the beginning of season 6? That’ll be Loot Lake.
Mesh for Volcanic Pit! (will be located at look lake likely), image is in relation to player model (not sure if this is 100% accurate or not) pic.twitter.com/3cXd9Y0zBA

Regardless of what location goes next, it appears as if it will disintegrate in a Fortnite volcano fire. @siloxleaks found models and meshes of Volcanic Pit assets, which you can see in the tweet above. Could a gigantic volcano rise out of Loot lake?
Fortnite season 6 theme
The theme is one of the most exciting parts of any new Fortnite season: it influences the future map changes and the range of cosmetic loot we can either purchase or unlock as part of the Battle Pass. Last season the ‘Worlds Collide’ theme cracked Fortnite’s space-time continuum. In other words, rifts turned up in the map that could catapult you across the map, and the theme encompassed Norse as well as heist-themed cosmetics.
Everyone: Look! A badass bright bomber!
Me: Dragons! Fuck yeah! Castle Theory! Knights vs Dragon! pic.twitter.com/SRQYobulkh

An emerging theory, which ties into the rumoured Crazy Castle area, is a medieval fantasy theme. There are some clues that suggest that the Fortnite season 6 theme could be along the lines of knights versus dragons, such as the leaked Fortnite Road Trip week 10 loading screen. Courtesy of the @TwoEpicBuddies tweet above we can see Brite Bomber looking at an evil reflection of herself in the big purple cube. But, if you look closer, you can see the picture of a dragon. For us it looks like a cute Spyro rather than an intimidating Nergigante, but we’ll have to wait and see.
