EA has revealed the official Gamescom trailer for Battlefield 5, titled ‘Devastation of Rotterdam.’
The trailer is all-action, as you might expect from a Battlefield trailer as we head full steam towards its release date of October 19.
At the end, we also get a sneak peek at the game’s new Battle Royale mode, which will be capitalising on the success of games such as PUBG and Fortnite in recent times.
The ‘circle’ in the Battlefield 5 battle royale mode will apparently be a ring of enclosing fire
EA hasn’t revealed much about the battle royale mode yet, but the trailer shows off some action high in the mountains, where a circle of fire is getting ever-smaller, while those remaining inside rush to the centre to stay alive.
A tank crashes through a building at one point, so it seems that vehicles and destructible environments will definitely be making their way over from the standard game to the battle royale mode.
Back at the game’s reveal, Mail Esports asked senior producer Lars Gustavsson whether there’d be a battle royale mode. He was very cagey at the time, and then at E3, EA did indeed reveal that the genre taking the world by storm would be coming to the long running franchise.
We’ll be at Gamescom next week going hands-on with Battlefield 5, and we’ll hopefully get to try out the battle royale mode as well. So check back in for all the information you need.
As for the main portion of the game, we’ll be seeing plenty of new animations based on where your character is running. The issue of scarcity is a big one in Battlefield 5, with ammo and health being resources you need to seriously think about.
War Stories is making a return, with single player missions focusing on the human side of war. Plus, there’s a new co-op mode called Combined Arms where you and up to three other friends team up to take on missions with an AI mission director controlling the difficulty based on your performance.
