Is Neymar considering a career change? The world’s most expensive footballer plays Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with one of the world’s best esports professionals
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is one of the world’s most popular esports
- Neymar has reportedly racked up more than 900 hours in the game so far
- He recently played with ‘coldzera’ a professional esports player for MIBR
The world’s most expensive footballer is apparently good at shooting in more ways than one, as he also happens to be pretty skilled at Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. He’s even pals with some of the game’s best esports athletes.
Recently he played with Marcelo ‘coldzera’ David, a Brazilian professional CS:GO player for MIBR.

Neymar met several former members of the SK Gaming CS:GO team back in December 2016
CS:GO is one of the world’s most popular first person shooters, especially in Brazil. It’s also one of the top tier esports, with millions of fans across the globe.
‘Am I alright? I drew against @coldzera’
Neymar was bragging about his latest CS:GO exploits on his Instagram story, posting a picture of the in-game leaderboard with the caption: ‘Am I alright? I drew against @coldzera.’
The leaderboard shows that he and fellow countryman coldzera (nickname ARKELOGON in the picture) both have 23 kills in the game. Not bad going for someone who spends most of his time in football training.
Neymar first met coldzera when he played for SK Gaming, a massive Brazilian CS:GO team. He’s also played with Gabriel ‘FalleN’ Toledo, another player who moved to MIBR from SK.
While they’re not quite on the same salary as Neymar, they’ve each earned nearly $800,000 in prize money from tournaments during their careers, according to Esports Earnings.
It has also been revealed in the past that Neymar has racked up more than 900 hours playing Counter-Strike, so it’s no wonder he’s able to occasionally pull off some pretty big plays.
He even paid homage to CS:GO with one of his celebrations at the World Cup this year, pretending to let a flashbang grenade off among his teammates, who shielded their eyes in the same way the characters in the game do.
Coldzera was also posting on Instagram while playing with Neymar, praising him over voice chat.
‘That’s it… do it that way, good Neymar, good Neymar!’ Coldzera was saying during the match.
He’s probably not training Neymar up to be MIBR’s next AWPer, but at least Neymar has options for an alternative career if this whole football thing doesn’t work out.
CS:GO has settled in London this summer, with the entire FACEIT London Major cycle taking place in the capital. The Minors took place at Twickenham Stadium, as will the early stages of the Major before they head to the sold out SSE Arena in Wembley in September.
We recently asked professional CS:GO players about their favourite moments from this year’s World Cup.
