- Riot Meddler revealed the ‘on my way’ ping may get new visual or sound effects
- It may also display different messages on chat such as Malphite is nearly there
- Meddler also revealed some of Riot’s strategy behind their player surveys
Riot Meddler has released a post on the League of Legends forums and has revealed a rather interesting feature that the team are currently working on.
In the past, some players have complained about a lack of clarity when it comes to the ‘on my way’ ping in the game. We’ve all been flamed before after a teammate has engaged as soon as they see the ping, thinking you are closer.
To avoid this, Riot are currently testing ways of showing your champion’s distance away from the ping so that your team has a better idea of where you are without looking at the minimap.
Riot are reworking the ‘on my way’ ping to demonstrate how just far away the person is
Meddler revealed that the game developers are experimenting with different options including different sounds, visual effects and chat messages to communicate distance including different sounds, visual effects and chat messages. He gave examples of what the chat messages could look like including: ‘Malphite is nearly there.’
However, this feature is still in its early stages and it take quite some time before these changes hit the PBE. This wouldn’t be the first time Riot have made big changes to the ping system after introducing the ‘warded here’ ping that fans had wanted for so long.
RECENT RIOT GAMES SURVEY TOPICS
-How important players feel the Honor system is or isn’t
– What players feel are are appropriate and inappropriate summoner names
– Perceptions of queue time
– The state of game balance and what players feel needs buffing or nerfing
– Attitudes to voice chat
– Which champions people are excited to see interact in future stories
– Perceptions of Swain
– Kai’Sa including thoughts about the release process
As well as discussing pings Meddler also mentioned Riot’s strategy behind their player surveys and revealed some of their recent survey topics.
Some of the topics included the recent Swain rework and Kai’Sa’s release process with questions about her comic and spotlight.
Riot have also been asking players about their thoughts to voice chat being included on the game. It’s another feature which players have wanted for a long time. It’s currently on the PBE but is only open to premades.
Meddler revealed that their surveys aren’t open to the general public because the results wouldn’t be representative of the whole playerbase.
Instead, Riot randomly send the surveys to players in certain subgroups such as ARAM players and junglers to get a stronger sample.
Meddler insists that if there is something fans want to see survey results for they should let him know and he will speak to the data team about publishing some of their gathered information.
