Torbjorn will be much better on attack and Molten Core may become a regular ability after his rework
- Overwatch’s lead designer Geoff Goodman spoke about Tjorb’s rework to VG247
- Tjorb will be able to throw his turrets, helping him be effective when attacking
- Molten Core could become a non-ultimate ability which only buffs his turrets
With Symmetra successfully being reworked into a defense hero, Overwatch fans are already getting excited for the upcoming rework for Torbjorn.
Blizzard are undoubtedly busy with Hammond’s release coming July 24 so Tjorb isn’t ready yet but they’ve still found the time to relentlessly playtest different versions of the Swedish hero.
Overwatch’s lead designer Geoff Goodman spoke about Tjorb’s rework, in an interview withVG247, and revealed what we can expect to see when the DPS hero’s update eventually releases.
Blizzard have spoken about Tjorbjorn’s rework for the first with big changes in the pipeline
One of the biggest potential changes would be the removal of Molten Core, Blizzard have even experimented with changing it from an ultimate ability to regular move. However, Goodman thinks that’s unlikely to make it to live and they’ll probably remove Core altogether:
‘First thing we did was try a lot of different takes on Molten Core – we tried it so it only affects the turret and doesn’t give you any buffs, and we tried the reverse so it only affects you.
‘We may end up with a completely different ultimate at this point because it ties up too much of his power, but that’s still very much in flux so it’s hard to say. As of now, I think we’ve decided to move away from Molten Core entirely.’
Blizzard thought about making Molten Core a regular ability but are likely to remove it entirely
As well as trying to take some power out of his ultimate, the other big focus of the rework will obviously be the turrets which Tjorb’s entire kit revolves around. Blizzard don’t want him to be a hero that only works when defending so they are removing the need to hammer turrets.
Goodman explained that their idea is for Tjorbjorn to throw out his turrets: ‘Currently, in our internal build, he just tosses it out – not super far, almost like a Tracer Pulse Bomb distance.
‘This plays a lot better on offense – especially because you can run up, throw it in a flank spot and be immediately shooting again and not feel like you have to sit there hammering it. Being able to use that and have an extra threat shooting from the side feels really powerful.’
